In this case study scenario, a disinfectant will be supplied primarily to the healthcare sector (for example, hospitals and aged-care facilities) to ensure floors, walls and general hard surfaces throughout these facilities are maintained to a high hygienic standard. The disinfectant will make claims against viruses (including Covid-19 and Norovirus), bacteria, as well as yeasts and moulds. It will therefore be regulated as a Listed Disinfectant by the TGA. Before the product can be supplied in Australia it will need to be entered on the ARTG.
The landscape flow chart presented below is a representative example of the requirements, predominantly TGA, expected to apply throughout the pre-market life cycle (Scoping, Design, Development and Evaluation) of hard surface disinfectant with claims against a broad range of micro-organisms. After evaluation by the TGA, and entry on to the ARTG, the product can be supplied in Australia as a hospital grade disinfectant.
